The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has concluded a two month investigation into the theft of narcotic pain patches from patients at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty.
On Wednesday August 29, 2012, Sheriff’s Detectives arrested 37 year old Robin Nash, a nurse’s aid, of Neversink, NY, and charged her with larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with evidence. Supervisors at the County’s nursing home alerted deputies in late June when they noticed Fentanyl patches missing from several patients at the facility. Full Story »
The village of Monticello police department announces the retirements of two longtime veteran police officers effective last week.
Lt. William Vanhage retired effective 8/31/12 after 34 years of service. Lt. Vanahge joined the Monticello police department on 7/26/78 as a patrolman. He was promoted to sergeant in March of 1985 and then a lieutenant in August of 2003. Lt. Vanhage was also the very first D.A.R.E. officer in Sullivan County and taught D.A.R.E. in the Monticello central school district from 1991-1998. Lt. Vanhage was also a longtime firearms instructor and range master for the police department.
Det. Luis feliciano retired effective 8/30/12 after a 25-year law enforcement career. Det. Feliciano joined the Town of Fallsburg police department on 6/29/87 and then transferred to the Monticello police department on 7/29/96. Det. Feliciano was also the very first K-9 unit officer for the village of Monticello with his K-9 partner “Kenya”. Following his K-9 unit service, Det. Feliciano was assigned as a school resource officer at the Monticello high school for several years. In October of 2003 he was promoted to detective. Full Story »
Steuben County, NY - At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 31st, a New York State Police Trooper was injured in a helicopter incident. Trooper Thomas A. Shultz, 41, a pilot assigned to the State Police Aviation Unit in Batavia, was returning from a search for a missing person in an Aviation Bell 407 helicopter when he experienced an in-flight mechanical emergency.
Trooper Shultz, a highly experienced Army combat pilot, took appropriate action and made a controlled but powerless descent, which resulted in a hard landing. The Trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. Full Story »
Monticello police are investigating a structure fire that occurred at 12:15PM, Thursday, at 42 Landfield Avenue in the Village of Monticello. Fire heavily damaged the 2-story residence, which was occupied by 2 adult females and 5 children. All the occupants were able to safely evacuate the residence. The fire was extinguished by the Monticello fire department. Full Story »
Monticello police arrested Kristina Davison (39) of South Fallsburg on Thursday 8/30/12. Davison was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 1st degree, and misdemeanor aggravated driving while intoxicated. Full Story »

A mother bear, with two cubs wandered into the Satmar Camp at Kutshers on Anawana Lake Road in Kiamisha, Sunday afternoon. The bears refused to leave the came, despite being chased around by vehicle with their horns blaring. The DEC Police, as well at the Sullivan County Sheriff were on the scene, and finally managed to scare them away. Full Story »
